Vintage door knobs have always attracted me. From the patina or crystal to the accompanying hardware, they are a wonderful accent for any room. Since I have been collecting them I have used them mostly as displays or for hanging, such as the photo above. I was excited to see another way to use them in Mary Janes Farm magazine June- July 2012.
Using copper tubing for stems simply slip into knobs, use lengths long enough to anchor them in the vase you choose, I used from 12- 20 inches, leaving enough to manipulate the bottom in the teapot for balance. I have not yet glued anything into place until I am sure this is what I want as a permanent display. In the magazine they used 2 T vinegar, 1 1/2 T ammonia and 1/2 T salt, using precautions like gloves and safety glasses, they shook the tube in a bag filled with the mix and let it stand 30 min. There are other ideas for vintage decor along with another patina finish, I really recommend picking up a copy of the issue.
The tubing can be found in your local hardware store in the plumbing department. It bends easily with a pliers or needle nose. I also had some old cement forms that look like another flower, I added a couple and intend to add a couple more "flowers" as soon as the door knobs become available.

That is really cute....I am amazed at the creativity....I would have never seen knobs as flowers!
I love this idea!
I'm chucklin' ...because just yesterday I was thinking about the shelving in my bedroom and how I wanted to add something vintage, industrial, quirky to my shelves. My eyes landed on a bowl of doorknobs and I was thinking 'how can I incorporate this bowl of doorknobs?' (because the bowl won't fit on the shelf)...
Something like this would be SOOOOO cool; because it fits the bill for quirky, vintage and industrial...it also fits with the flowers I have collage on the wall!
Love it.
Thanks for showing it.

These are great, You couldalso use faucet knobs and other junk like that to add to the bouquet. I am on this!
simply adore them
I really like your door knob flowers. We have glass doorknobs in our house and my sister in law has collected some extras for me. I think they would be lovely flowers.
Shannon,
That is one ingenious idea!
