For years I have said my house is...shabby chic, industrial, junk style, flea market etc...
But I think perhaps juxtaposition flea market style fits best. I love both the soft, tranquil whites as well as the rustic metals. If I had to chose over a beautiful vintage linen or a rusty bucket....I would stand there for hours.
There is just something about the contrast of the soft and feminine against a galvanized piece that works for me. I love the old things, things worn, torn and full of memories.
Perhaps it is the contrast that is so intriguing because mirrors life. Sometimes things flow and are soft and peaceful, only to give way to a hard crack on the head of a full metal assault.
Both for some reason go hand in hand.
I have seen many houses given over to floral, pastel or collectibles. That would be one thing if only a woman lived there....often a man is somewhere hidden between the dolls, owls, and chenille.
Usually they say they don't mind. I think they might.
I want a guy to be as comfortable in my home as any woman. I think a pop of a metal cog, a hood ornament, or an oil can can accomplish a lot. I also think when the man is represented at home he can also enjoy the femininity of his wife and her appreciation for the softer things, and still feel at home himself.
I also love a touch of old country side farm feel. I wish I had a farm set out in the boonies with bees, and chickens and a falling down barn. Since I don't, I use my kitchen to try and create a feeling I got when as a child I would visit rural relatives.
This is where my love of the 30's, 40's and 50's style shows, not the modern side but the old school basics like enamel ware. Again mixed with the modern- juxtaposition.
Most of my stuff and I mean probably 75% of what you see in my house is second hand, garage sales, hand me downs, curbside and clearance is how I roll!
You can see more by hitting my decorate tab or my pages at the top under the header, see how it changes through the seasons on the page Around the House, located along top.

Wow. you have a lot of gorgeous items. I think our cottage would be described as eclectic (or mish mash!)I'm also aware that there is a man about the house and try not to go to far down the 'pretty pretty' route...although it's hard!!
I just love your gorgeous home! Filled to the brim with wonderful vintage treasures that you love, that makes a home. Your styling and contrast of materials is amazing. We'd love to have you link with us, it's lovely!
Hugs,
Patti

Great tour! You have so many neat groupings of things you've collected. It's very impressive to me that you've bought most of it second hand. It gives your home character. :)

After the gracious tour of your home, I guess I am a J.F.M. stylist also. Love the way you have mixed ancient, old, vintage, and new in various textures, shapes and colors. It is truly a delight for the eyes! Now a GFC follower.
