Snow Baby!

Snow babies are definitely a collection of my favorite things! So they go perfect for many parties this week like....Funky Junk's Collections, Laurie's Favorite Things, White Wednesday, Table Top Tues, Vignette Friday  Mosaic Monday ,    Metamorphosis Monday and .

Years ago my aunt bought me a Dept 56 Snow Baby, she continued to buy me one every Christmas, then my other aunt joined in. Soon they became a favorite and I too added to the collection.
Usually they are in the bedroom in the hutch but since they haven't been out for a few Chirstmas's I decided let them play this year, where everyone can see them.

In the middle photo above, the little one pushing the snow ball was the very first one I received.

As a little side note....did you know what will actually fit in a priority mail box size medium?

if you suck the air out..........
two large heavy pillows! These are the memory foam pillows that Sams sells, my step mom and dad didn't like them...so she squished them here!

If you have snow.....go play in it! Unless it is - 20 with wind....then just take a nap!

Paper Wreath and winter white

I saw this fun wreath around blog land and decided to make one. I used an old hymnal, I happened to have two exactly the same, it is in German I think, so I wasn't going to be singing out of it anyway!

Of course........here in North Dakota white has a way of showing up and it did. We were expecting 1-3 inches but got 12 instead! Just in time to usher in the -7 temp (-21 wind chill) this morning with a storm on the way for Wed and Thurs.......and yes I am still going Black Friday shopping!

I do love instant snow flowers. Buried beneath is the Monarda and Sedum.

Of course first order of the day is to clear the path!  And the car.  UGH!

or ....why not stay inside and craft a little.

Start by forming cones out of each page, I made two sizes, smaller for an inside ring. You can use a glue gun but for the paper and to glue to base I used Elmers, it gave me more time for adjusting.

Use a wooden spoon to press down and to refluff after weighing down.

I did a little embellishing with some scrabble tiles and wire.
These I attached with a glue gun as well as the wire hanger....note the base is simply a round cut from a case of Cola.

vintage vignette

I found these old photos at a sale...even though I don't know them...I think they fit right in!

A couple had names on them which leads me to believe they must have meant something to someone at sometime.

Here they are paired with the watch given to my grandparents on their 50th wedding anniversary.

This is my vignette on my vintage dresser, that I found 2 years ago....curbside..yep!
I would show you a photo of the dresser, but I just realized I don't have a good one....perhaps next post.

Here we are 23 years ago, I wonder if anyone will hang on to this photo? And how old will it look in 50 years?

Lotus Napkin Tablescape

       Creative
                      Expressive
        Unique
                               Personal

I have to say before blogging I thought it was just setting the table, oh but.......

what fun you can have tablescaping! Just pull out all those dishes, odds and ends, centerpieces, napkins etc!
I am quite fond of the yellow, orange mix. The place mats were $1.oo each at Big Lots and the ramekins were actually at the Dollar Tree!! I bought several in two different sizes.

Years ago I found a vintage bread basket liner.. It folds and snaps for individual pockets for rolls.

Another sale find...for less than a dollar was this sweet pineapple skewer set.

This is what you do when last minute company is on the way....have your son quickly grab another table from the shed and rearrange! The more the merrier right?

This night we had Butterflied, brined turkey, potatoes, corn casserole, herb rolls and chocolate pumpkin tiramisu. Some of those recipes will soon be up and linked to at ND Kitchen!
