New Vignettes

A little change in the living room vignettes. Not really Spring here yet.....nicer longer days but still lots of snow, so a little rearranging always seems to help.
This vignette sits on top of the roll top desk.
I stay a little more junk style in the living room, it has rich Terra cotta and deep beige walls. This is our entry room so I think keeping it more of a masculine/feminine mix is more inviting. I keep the whites and cottage shabby for the bedroom and cross the two styles in a more old vintage rustic style in the kitchen dining room.

I love the metal and rust, combined with the white fence. I have another fence piece buried in the snow that I have plans for whenever it gets uncovered .....helps with the rustic charm!

This is on top of the shelf my husband made. It is lined with hooks on the bottom and doubles as a coat rack.

The orchids are done blooming...for now...so I bought more at Trader Joes! The only thing bad about orchids is how long it takes for them to rebloom!

Simple, rustic, mostly sale find decor.
 But....in honor of Almost Spring.....
      here are the new orchids!

 Aaaaahhhh!

Burlap Seat Cushions

How much I love these old chairs, given to me by a friend. I also love my Dunn Brothers burlap coffee bags! Perfect for rustic cushions.

And to go along with my burlap bulletin board, seen HERE.

Because the bags are already seemed on both sides, I simply slipped in a foam cushion and cut the length, then used jute and a large needle to whip stitch them closed.

Perfect for a cup of coffee and a banana Java muffin.
Speaking of coffee.....
Look what the lovely Julie from Louisiana sent me.

Seeing my love for coffee, she sent a wonderful bag of  Community , a brand we can not get here in ND..mmmm it is fantastic. And dark roast...my favorite!  Thank you Miss Julie!!

200 follower giveaway announcement coming soon!

The Feminization of Ken

 Ken turns 50- Parade.com/ken

oh how he has evolved!
1962 Ken was before my time. Mod Ken.....well he looks pretty cool.
I remember Ken more like Superstar Ken.
   Big manly smile
blond plastic hair you could run your fingers on

What happened?   Look closely at the new Quintessential Ken.
He looks more like Barbie than Ken!

 More girl than boy.
Why even Toy Story 3 has Ken more interested in his dream house and clothes than Barbie herself.
Quintessential......I looked it up.
            most perfect embodiment
HMMMM
so for Ken to be perfect he must....
  embrace his feminine side?
have his lips done?
 an eyebrow lift?
Who told Ken he had to be soft?  That being a man was wrong.

Perhaps the feminist movement or Hollywood, tv?
usually portraying men as brash, insensitive, drinking, womanizing, sloppy and stupid
I guess he is more of a man if he is tender, romantic, bursting into song and dance while helping you pick out paint, wallpaper and a new bra.

I don't know....I kind of like the Bruce Willis type myself.

Where is the Ken doll that has grease under his fingernails from changing the oil?
the one that walks through the house in his dirty shoes?
how about the one with the swollen thumb from hitting with a hammer and a bleep sticker over his mouth?
or the one with a shot gun in the back of his pickup truck.

yeah...that Ken irks me sometimes but when push comes to shove....
          He is the provider
                   the protector
and he can be found sleeping in the lazy boy in the center of the mall while I shop for the new bra.
So I ask you what is next?

 Party planning Ken

decorator Ken

         house cleaning Ken??

Just sayin'

I like my Ken to be Ken.
                       on second thought......

house cleaning Ken might be ok...
considering he didn't take his shoes off at the door .....again!

Vingettes, Treats and Giveaway

Care for a cup of tea?
Do you drink tea or are you a coffee person? I like both. Usually it is coffee in the morning and perhaps a cup of tea in the evening.  Chamomile is my  favorite.

I snapped a self portrait in the only shined pot...it was wrapped and stored air tight unlike the others with their oxidized patina.

Every piece of silver I have has come from tag sales or given to me. I have a couple pieces that need to be repaired......it seems that is not so easily done in this area. Most jewelers won't touch silver, to solder that is.  Have you ever had silver repaired? Where did you go?

I'm so excited that this blog has just reached 200 followers and my other blog North Dakota kitchen has surpassed 100!  So to celebrate ND Kitchen is having a giveaway, Click HERE to enter, and to see some recipes.  Home made fondant is my new "gig" lovin' it!  I have never decorated cakes so it is a fun way to pretend I can. I  thank Netflix and Cake Boss for this new love.

So next week I will have a giveaway here at SBNR too.
I want to thank every follower.  I really appreciate that you would take time out of your day to stop by and check in. I hope you will leave a comment some time, if you haven't ever already. It really helps to get to know you.

On another note....it is still not Spring here...well not real Spring. I guess it is if you go by North Dakota standards of days in the 30's and 40's and nights in the teens and 20's.  Still lots of snow to melt and tons of snirt (snow dirt).  No buds or green anywhere yet, then maybe it is Spring.

But yesterday my daughter bought me daffodils! So  I wait ever so patiently for them to bloom on my kitchen table. By the way she is new to blogging, just started, stop by if you like and say hi. Chick in a Fedora

Outdoor Elements add TExtUrE

 Bringing the outdoors in......
One of the best things with adding the usual outdoor elements to indoor decor is the texture it brings.  Along with whimsy and a second glance!

Fence

 Wood...

Windows...

Plants and plant stands.....

                       old insulators

 Architectural pieces

When it is still 15 degrees with snow every where you look....it's good to have a little of the outdoors, INSIDE!

   aaahhh I love the tExTure
