Spring Dishes...for cheap!

If you have a Dollar Tree (sorry, I first posted Dollar General) store....perhaps like me you were fortunate enough to pop in and discover.... these amazing Royal Norfolk dishes there....yep $1.00 each!!

To say the least I was so excited, I don't have many colorful dishes...and I have really wanted some solid colors to mix and match. These are just perfect! I bought 12 plates and 10 bowels and 6 place mats- used here as napkins instead.

cute salt and pepper shakers also found at a dollar store, total for twelve sets....$2.00
so yep, $28.00 for all.

I pulled out some metal colorful buckets and reusable green heavy plastic silverware, one of last years finds that cost only a couple dollars.

beautiful flowers from my daughter for Easter in a $1.00 vase

I love the Spring feel!

Vintage Suitcases

Yesterday's post featured a new vintage suitcase and some linens I found at our first weekend of garage sales this Spring.  Today I am showing you where this great piece is resting in my home....

As for now it is in my bedroom housing Uncle Paw Paw's hat.  I hope to collect enough suitcases to one day be able to display them as a stacked table.
Along the lines of these displays at a local flea market

But for now this suitcase rests here

And the other vintage suitcase I have is currently displayed like this.

Both are in the bedroom where soft whites dominate.

29 degrees is for the best garage salers!

Living in North Dakota...Spring is shall we say...sometimes disappointing. I was up early Saturday for our Bible Study Fellowship leader's meeting....so excited because there was a big inside garage sale to go to afterward! I didn't know there would be a bonus of slightly off people...like myself actually having sales in their garages. Despite 29 degrees and fresh snow....the sale must go on! Bless them. I , in my little black shoes...that got quite chilly....mustered through. Diligent, undaunted....hunting....it was the first of the season ya know.
I would much rather have come home from my hunt and sit in this chair on a sunny deck and drink some coffee...but that wasn't to be...and still isn't. We have spent this last week in cloudy, drizzle snizzle  snow rain 30 degree temps. Some Spring!
The week before we were in the 60's for a couple days and I took a little trip around the yard

seeing the beginnings of the flower gardens coming back to life and the yummy rhubarb peeking its pink fingers through the sun warmed earth was quite a treat indeed! Soon....soon....soon, Oh how I long for Spring.

I did find some fun things to ease my pain and suffering and freezing toes....ok so too much drama.

This fabulous old suitcase! And wonderful linens! and a sweet silver candle stick.  All for less than $12.

Old books here...and some white mailboxes....that will be revealed later! I have a wonderful use for them and can't wait to show you....there is a hint of what I will be doing with them in the Spring Flea Market Style Magazine.
Tomorrow I will show you a bit of where these things are being used.

Fence Me In!

I happen to love the mix of outdoor elements inside. I had a piece of fence that finally revealed itself after the snow melt. It got a slapping of white paint...not too well done to help with the natural weathered look and was placed behind the clock to give it a little pop!

I love the look, this room, the living room is the first you see when you enter our home. I have it a little more masculine in color and decor. With a vintage country kitchen and a cottage white bedroom it keeps balance in the house that keeps my husband happy too.

The fence also is in keeping with a couple more fence pieces in the dining room.....
and on the opposing wall in the living room.

Along with windows, iron planters and galvanized pots...fencing is one of my favorite ways to add an outdoors feel inside.

What do you bring in from the outside?

Vintage Jars

I have been collecting Vintage jars for a while now and am completely in love with them. First because they are simply beautiful and every time I  touch one I wonder what it has seen? Where did it live? Did someone can something wonderful in it? Did it sit on a shelf starring out the window at a nearby garden wondering what would come next year?
I know...
That is a lot of personality for a jar....but you see I am a canner. I grow a garden and in the fall when everything is ready for harvest...I gather it inside, prepare it and wait. I wait for that special POP every jar makes as it seals, sitting on the
counter with the fall sunshine glistening through the glass.
Ahhhh
And I wonder how many times these jars have done just that.

Today with the vintage style decorating....they are used for so much more, But they always convey a time gone by, a piece of history. They all have a story to tell.

Wonderful storage from candles to foods.

A little old time flair! For this vintage girl.

Hope you enjoyed the vintage jar display. Donna at Funky Junk is having a link party this week. I am also linking to
