Unusual Photo Frames- Trowels and Scrapers

A fun way to use old tools, metals or broken pieces is to incorporate them into a new item. I used some old trowels and a broken ice scraper to make some fun frames.

Pieces of broken jewelry, ribbons and old keys were added for embellishment.
I tore book and scrapbook paper to glue on as a backdrop.
Several were magnetic but one was not. This one I tied the small frame onto the back handle to help hold a photo. The others I just made a magnetic holder out of keys.

E600 glue was used to adhere the permanent embellishments and regular Elmer's for the paper.

Rustic with a little bling! An easy and fun new way to display photos, recipes, or to leave a note.

Upcycled Snowmen

A while back we rescued a partial table from the roadside, it must have fallen off a vehicle because it was broken and scattered. It had been a two tiered table and the leg dividers were charming enough to save.
A bit of paint and embellishment turned them into snowmen candle holders.
what they looked like before

Staying in the snowman theme, we had some crib parts left over. This would work with any spindle, but these were from older cribs that had solid backs we had removed the boards for benches and now it was time to re-purpose the left overs!

White latex paint and some high gloss black did the trick. I used wood buttons painted orange for the noses and added buttons, keys and fabric for the finish.

I am getting ready for a small venue show only 4 days before Christmas, not sure how it will go, either lots of last minute shoppers or I am preparing for next year.....
It is a little hard to gauge what anyone will be looking for so close to the holiday.

I am loving the mini trees in vintage Ball jars and Hobby Lobby light bulbs. For the bulbs with such small openings, I had to remove the tree bases and drop in some hot glue, hold the tree piece in place until the glue set up.
I also love the way the sunlight is dancing in the glass, it has been awfully cold here, even for us but at least there has been some sun!

The Christmas Decor Post

 The Truck

Snow is falling, presents need wrapping, cocoa packs are ready. It must be winter...it must be Christmas! I have to admit, being a vendor during November... (that rhymes!) really made me want to decorate early. But...we had to replace a floor in our living room and so it held me off until after Thanksgiving. I will probably appreciate it, no matter how much I love Christmas decor, when the holiday is over...I want it down!

After finding a wonderful truck this year I knew a focal point I had always wanted to create. Who doesn't love the look and memory if you have it, of driving out to pick your tree. I used several mini bottle brush trees, a few larger ones, batting, glitter snow and a piece of burlap for the road. To hoist up the back end of the truck I just tucked an empty box under the batting. Tossed in a couple rocks and my winter tree wonderland was done.

The Trees

I went with a pencil tree this year. Simple and small it takes some getting used to. I am kind of a go big or go home girl, but...since I live that way in my home...there isn't a lot of room for the big tree right now.
 so.....
I will just get another little one. right?
two has to be better than one! Glad I saved space by using a smaller tree.

Lovely white nestled on a vintage hat box, with fresh cut juniper. I love this look.

The Mantle

A new metal piece makes the perfect rustic wreath, along with some simple stars and bed springs, the mantle has a mix of eye popping color and whimsy.

The Stuff

I love keeping the stationary items in my home where they are and just accenting them for the season. I have written in the past how my home really doesn't have a lot of storage space so keeping simple touches to add around, rather than lots of nick knacks etc. allows me to decorate faster and with much less stress. After years of dragging out boxes and boxes....I simply have 2 totes...and I think I might be able to get to one soon!

Using things like bulbs, fresh greenery from trees that need a trim anyway, and a few favorite items makes decorating fun and not such a task.

I find staying with a few areas decorated in a theme, helps to make the entire house feel like it is ready for the season. Have you decorated? What are your tips?

Merry Christmas!

(Henry Wadsworth Longfellow (1807-1882), 1867)

I Heard the Bells on Christmas Day
Their old familiar carols play,
And wild and sweet the words repeat
Of peace on earth, good will to men.

I thought how, as the day had come,
The belfries of all Christendom
Had rolled along the unbroken song
Of peace on earth, good will to men.

And in despair I bowed my head:
"There is no peace on earth," I said,
"For hate is strong and mocks the song
Of peace on earth, good will to men."

Then pealed the bells more loud and deep:
"God is not dead, nor doth he sleep;
The wrong shall fail, the right prevail,
With peace on earth, good will to men."

Till, ringing singing, on its way,
The world revolved from night to day,
A voice, a chime, a chant sublime,
Of peace on earth, good will to men!
