Funky Junk is hosting a What the heck is it? I have a couple things I would love to know if you know more about them.
One is this box. I just adore it. Very well made with a great latch, quality joining and a curious slot that makes it look like it slid into something bigger.
I store candles etc in it, I only paid $2 at a garage sale thinking my dad would like it but by the time I got home I was in love with the piece and he never got it. shhh
Next up is what ever this is?
I love the rusty patina, it is pretty thin metal and very light weight.
So I hang my hand towels on it. What else would I do with it?
blessings and thanks for visiting

Well, now...both of these are sooo cool and Donna at Funky Junk is gonna love 'em. I do, too.
I have NO idea what they are but you are using them in a FUNKY GOOD way.!!
I try sooo hard to be funky like Donna (I wanna be her when I grow up) but I just don't know how.:)
I do have a post ready for WHAT IS IT? but my WHAT IS IT isn't nearly as cute as yours.
hugs, bj
Shannon--
is that a shoe shine box? or a maybe a gun cleaning kit-box?
Well, either way- it certainly is cute.
The other piece looks like something they used to put mailboxes on the porch (not curbside) and they came in pairs... one set of hooks was for the mail box and the other for the paper or bulky mail.
But what I REALLY think they are is a sweet looking candle 'stash-box' and a swell looking towel hook!
Now, these are only guesses of course!
I have NO idea what either one is for but I think that they have found a wonderful home and practical uses with you and your family.
They look great!
((Hugs))

My but that's one great box!
You're a Southern belle with Northern roots, whereas I'm a Northern beau with Southern roots. I left Mississippi at age 36, and have been in Oregon (yes, it WAS a Union state) for the last 25 years. I miss a lot about the South, but my family is dead, and it's a long trip down there, so I rarely go back.
My first thought is the box is a shoe shine box.
I would never have guessed what these are...it looks like one did, but I love what you are using them for. I wish I could look at something and see a practical use but I can't. The towels go on a towel bar and the candles get stuffed in a drawer!! This is a neat party!

I posted a comment this morning, from Rachel's computer, but evidently it didn't take. I think the box may be an insert to a carpenter's tool box, they had a small drop in box to keep their delicate tools, wood folding rulers, calipers, dividers, levels, etc. from getting damaged by the saws, hammers, chisels, planes, and such kept in the main part of the box. Some of the carpenter's boxes were 3 to 4 feet long.
I wish my dad was around to ask - I bet he would know. They look very nice, I love the wood and the dove tail joining.
Maybe a shoe shine kit~ great dove tailing and could part of a sceen door... I adoare how you have used them!

the size and shape of the box reminds me of ammunition storage boxes my dad used to have. His boxes, however, were metal, not wood, but they opened the same way.
Have no clue, but is sure is COOL! Donna will know, and she is going to love it. Have a great weekend. Loved your comment btw!
Ha! The towel holder is a fabulous idea! Love it! No idea what it is either but it's perfect whatever it is. :)
I'll take that adorable box filled WITH scentsy too. Yum. Got any mochadoodle in there?!? :D
Donna
I agree with everyone else, the box looks like an old shoe-shiners box. I love how you're hanging out hand towels! Extra cool.
the hangy thing looks like a plant holder? The box must have been something cooool! Either way, great items and love how you use them!
Cool shoe shining box! The other I have no clue. But love the repurpose!
Shannon, I don't know what the intended use was, but I really like both of these items and the way you are using them. laurie
The first looks like a shoe shine box my husband has.The second I don't know but I like how you're using it!

Did you ever find out what the box was? The first thing I thought of was a shoe shine box. And I love your towel holder, how fun! I also adore your white china cabinet that I spotted on your sidebar, it's just gorgeous!!
I thought it was a shoe shine box also. No idea what the metal thing is. Looks great as a towel holder though!
I like your box...that's one of my fedishes...boxes are so decorative as well as useful. I think your box is an insert into a larger tool box for small tools. Love your blog!
