To my Husband, another man understood

(This was posted yesterday and after the Blogger glitch it disappeared, this is done from memory and may yet turn up again. Sorry that means all comments on it were lost too.)

Does your husband understand? Does he get it? Mine doesn't, but...
another man did!
This weekend at a garage sale.....I spotted these! OH MY!!!
I was holding them picking one up putting the other down......trying to decide how I would use them and where I would put them.  They have a light coat of grease, just enough dust and a smell of must and metal. Perfect!
A man I knew (that was hosting the garage sale) asked if they were for my husband. No! I love this stuff I replied.
Then I heard him, a man behind me.
In his 60's, hearty and  a little heavy wearing bib overalls, he said,
"It's shabby chic, that's why she likes it."

He came over and looked at them with me, I told him I liked junk style, he nodded, he understood just what I meant.
We had a moment.
Bliss between two junkers.
His wife was loading up her finds in the truck, she never knew.

I told him I was leaning toward this one (directly above) he said, "oh but this one is older and look at how it is worn, it was used a lot," as he caressed the handle.
"My husband will have a fit if I even bring one home"
"They are cheap! Tell him you bought one and they gave you the other."

Now his wife pipes in....."So that is what you do?"
We all laugh, I bought both for only $3.00.
I brought them home, and as my husband approached he looked down at them and looked at me as though I was a cat that had dragged in a dead mouse. He just doesn't get it.

 He couldn't see the beauty.....

 or the purpose.

He doesn't understand why we have fence on the wall,

or why I needed another old suitcase.

He doesn't get this old ladder

And he sure doesn't understand why we had to stop the car and dig this out of the trash.

Poor guy, he puts up with a lot!

I love this post! I laughed all the way through. :)

My husband got really mad at me about a week ago. His Mum recently moved into a condo and is getting rid of some of her things from her previous home.
I asked him if he thought that she would give us a mirror that I really love. He said he would ask and agreed it would look great above our fireplace.
I said "Yeah, it's shabby chic". He thought that I was saying it was crap. LOL
Long story short, even though she said we could have whatever we wanted that was left in the house, she said "NO" to me taking the mirror.

I won't say what words are going through my head right now. :)

That really is a Fabulous Find ~ I see why you Splurged & Bought Both! I sorta remember just how Husbands can be, Treasure Hunting is when I Remember that I am Lucky not to have one anymore... lol

And you hesitated because.......? OMGoodness I would have snatched and ran! Lovely, wonderful, BEAUTIFUL! I had to laugh and buy one and tell him the other was free. I have a girlfriend at work who gives me little bits and pieces *wink*!

My husband used to not "get it", but he's been in the business with me for quite a few years, so now he's figured it out, and a lot of the time even shows me things that I might like! Thanks so much for linking up to VIF, just love both of the carriers. xo Debra

Okay - I have to schedule a time to go with you on you garage sales. I don't have time to find where they are but I'd love to tag along with you.

I LOVE the shabby chic moment with the bibs guy - and his wife's response.

My husband would totally get it - we're both pack rats. He bought an old bowling pin (and it sits atop of the entertainment center in the TV room) because it looked "neat" and he didn't have one. I said I hadn't started the day with "gee I don't have a bowling pin in the TV room and wouldn't it be nice?"

OMG! I am going to sit my husband down to read your post when he gets home! AND MY SON TOO! They don't get it AT ALL! Sometimes they like something - most times not. If it is kept up in my craft room - then it's OK, but to start spreading some of the shabby chic throughout the house? NOT! I would be booted out the door.(but honestly there are a few things they haven't noticed, or if they have, haven't said anything about - hehehe) It makes me sad. Cause I LOVE IT! I look at some of the homes other bloggers have and wonder "How come her husband lets her?"
Ah well.
What a great post! Love this!

How fun that you found a man that actually gets it. My hubby puts up with it but he doesn't really get it at all. I love the shot with it on the lace table cloth with flowers. I think it's perfect!
Happy Met Monday!
