Vintage Suitcases-what do you store in them?

oh those vintage suitcases, so lovely and so practical, I mean if you are going to have them you may as well use them. this way when your husband looks at you funny when you bring home another....you can say "Storage!" and he will believe you.

Don't let them sit empty, I have heard of others that store out of season clothing in them, this is great if you have large suitcases, I keep winter coats in the trunks in our living room.

In these I keep the wrapping papers, Use dividers to separate light items like bows and tissue paper on the top half.

Tuck in  items that tend to get away from you in side pockets so you can easily locate them. Another hint...Keep most frequent wrapping in the top one or two cases. My top has general gift bags and tissue, the second general wrapping paper, larger gift bags and boxes, the third stores Christmas gift boxes and the bottom two tags, bows and smaller rolls of wrapping paper for the holidays.

all neat and tidy........
What do you keep in your suitcases?

Funny thing, I just closed up two old ones, from my family. One is filled with information saved by Mom about my father (WWII pilot casualty, never knew him) the other is filled with genealogy and misc. photos from my maternal grandparents and that side of the family and two are filled with sketches, things from my 93 year old Uncle who just passed in May in PA. I sure don't buy these things, but your look quite nice there aside the dresser. Mine I suppose are originals.

I just wish I could find some! I definately would use them for storage as it is a premium with no basements!

I don't have any & they are VERY costly here in the mall & auctions. Love what you've used yours for tho.

Have a great week ~

I have one that holds all our Christmas dvds and books. Others hold miscellaneous cd cases, cords, and so on. I really like your idea of storing gift wrapping supplies in them--great idea.
Your collection is beautiful!

You have a great idea for your suitcases, Shannon!! I have always wanted to collect a few, but wondered how I could let something useless take up space. Now you have me thinking...

Great ideas! I have accumulated a few suitcases now, and I'm debating what to do with them.

Oh wow! Gift wrap and Christmas decor... now I'd not thought of that one.
I have a brief case with a few VHS tapes (we have a combo VHS/ DVD player) I didn't get rid of ALL my tapes when I had the great Entertainment Center clean out.
I also have one small train case that holds a Nintendo Game Cube for the older Grands when they come over. It holds the console, to controllers, plugs and about 5 or 6 games... all neatly tucked away!

I have a stack that have very poor insides waiting to be recovered and then will hold photo albums and pictures. But that project is another day.

I like the gift wrap idea though-- so now, I'm thinking I should scrounge a few more cases!

Your suitcases are great looking and the storage is an additional plus. I have some old suitcases that I use for storage, but they are just old, worn and not vintage.

I have used a vintage suitcase for exactly the same thing! I use one for everyday greeting cards, wraps, ribbon etc and one for all of my Christmas goodies.

I love the way you stack yours-they look wonderful!

Best wishes,
Natasha.

I usually only store extra air in mine! LOL!! Actually, I'm in the process of turning one into a dressing table for my daughter. The only other one is empty, I think. I have a square trunk that I store my older scrapbook magazines and books in that I can't seem to part with just yet.

I only have the one small Samsonite case in my vintage boys room (guest room). I still haven't found the matching suit cases to the set. I should store something in it though. Now that I think about it, I am growing out of my sewing basket. Maybe I can turn it into a sewing basket? Hummm. Thanks for putting a hot poker under me. ~Ames

Shannon, You have a great collection of vintage suitcases. I have a few and I keep some of my smaller decorating items in them. Since I like to change the decor often these come in handy. Thank you for sharing this at the Open House party.

You have a great collection of vintage suitcases, and what a good idea for storage. I have just one vintage suitcase and recently added it to the top shelf of our new closet organizer in our bedroom. It stores my painting clothes, essential to keep for painting days but keeps all the paint splattered clothes out of sight.

I only have one vintage suitcase, and it is filled with photographs that I keep saying I'm going to organize. Out of sight, out of mind. You make great use of yours, and they look so nice stacked up. laurie
