My collection of vintage luggage has taken over nearly every room. I decided I have to consolidate it to only a couple rooms. I have loved the stuffed dresser look, replacing the drawers with the suitcases but was unable to find the right dresser. I found this great bookshelf at an estate sale. Complete with dust cobwebs and garbage pail kid stickers, I needed to give it a good cleaning.
It was going in one of the white rooms, my bedroom has a blue chair that has just the right pop, having that burst of color made me want to paint the shelf, I kept with the blue, for now- I can always repaint!
Tip from Donna @ Conghaile Cottage Place doilies or place mats under suitcases to keep from sticking over time to paint!! I read her tip and went to check, after only 1 day....slight sticking was already occurring!
Most of this luggage had ended up here in the living room. I had liked the display but the room had become too crowded and needed some bigger pieces moved around so this display had to go.
They have made the rounds in the house, and I feel as though I should stop buying them now!! I just hate to leave one at a sale if it has a good price! With a total of 14 and limited space, I must stop! I have paid less than $35 for all of them! I see one for that price at most vintage resale stores. Do you have any collections that are getting out of hand?
The newest piece......maybe the last????

"I too share your passion for these little Traveling Treasures"...Hey, look at them as EXTRA STORAGE! I don't think you should stop buying them, THEY LOOK FANTASTIC the way you set them up. I have mine with extra linens in them. I tuck dryer sheets in the little pockets inside and it keeps everything smelling "SO GOOD"! LOVE,LOVE,LOVE the idea with the bookself! That looks WONDERFUL! Beware of that blue paint though touching the suitcases. They MAY STICK... Put a protective MAYBE napkin under each suitcase? I HAVE had that happen(we live and learn,hehe)...
I ALSO collect ANTIQUE TRUNKS(they take up LOTS and LOTS more room, but the storage is INCREDIBLE)...
Have a fun week,
Keep bringing those treasures home,
Hugs,
Donna
I think it is interesting as I try so hard to find one suitcase...and you are trying to curb your collection!! I love the idea of the cases in the bureau for the drawers...
I just can't imagine you walking away from another find!!
I'm with CeeKay--I can barely find them here.
I do love how you display them though. I like seeing how you use them like most of us would use a tray, on the table top! I especially love the subtlety of your latest find. Did you paint it to match your cupboard? it blends in nicely to your white room!
It looks so pretty.

Shannon, I wished you lived here in Minden. I ran by the Good will just this morning to drop some things off and their dumpster outside must of had ten old suitcases piled in the top. If I had room, I would have gotten them but I hadn't seen this blog post at the time either.
It was the Minden, Louisiana Good will on Homer rd if your interested. Maybe they would get them before the dump man comes and send them to you.
Great idea thou and love the blue shelve! Your so creative!
Great idea and it is cute to boot! Thank you for sharing. Visiting from Ivy and Elephants. Would love it if you would share this at my Make it Pretty Monday party at The Dedicated House. http://thededicatedhouse.blogspot.com/2012/08/make-it-pretty-monday-week-11.html Hope to see you at the bash! Toodles, Kathryn @TheDedicatedHouse
I have said before I love what you do with the vintage luggage, don"t know how many pieces we have trashed when cleaning out relatives homes in PA and the Goodwill stores are beginning to turn up their noses and not take them either. I had that same white Samsonite, shown as you last photo..I really like your stuffed blue frame for the suitcases...clever. And I have many collections out of hand, cookbooks for one. Just donated a stack to the church rummage sale.
Oh- I love all your luggage. You can't find it here at all- they must be sending it to your part of the country! You have done a wonderful job displaying it- xo Diana
My, you do have alot of luggage! looks like you had the idea before others..great for storage.
On a rather regular basis we get vintage luggage to GIVE AWAY down in the Shepherd's Loft. I think of you EVERY TIME I see it.
I don't collect it, and though I LOVE your collection, I just don't have a place to put it here nor do I want to try to figure out a place to put it here - - - so I let it go to someone else.
Sigh
I LOVE the shelves with the suitcase "drawers" Love that.
I share your love of old luggage and I think your displays are great! I have a wicker picnic suitcase my son sat on (ggrrrr) but I can use it to hold books, etc. like in one of yours! So clever. They usually cost a mint here so I doubt I'll have an issue with space for them. I fill them, too. Fabric is in a trunk & suitcase now. Janet
Love, love, love it!!! Such a great idea - nice blue too :)
Greetings from Australia♥

I did my foyer arrangement in uniquely stacked luggage and trunks and did a blog post on it. I really enjoyed your arrangements. I found you at Ivy & Elephants this week! Come visit!
I never kept my old luggage, just go rid of it. Of course, I had no idea you could use it in such a simple, elegant way. You did good.
I love the cupboard with the quilts and blankets in it. Everything in that photo speaks to me. The metal stand is so pretty too. Love the luggage on top! Great post!
Okay, that is one of the coolest things I have ever seen. Can't wait to look back through your blog.
Pinning these ideas! Love the idea of putting the cases IN a shelf the way you did and the blue color really makes them "pop"! Also great idea to use one to store/display books! I have a room that is a vintage travel theme and I'm collecting cases for it -- it IS addicting!
What a fantastic collection of vintage luggage! And that shelf is just perfect. Fun and practical! Love it! Thank you for sharing all this cool luggage inspiration at TTF!
Your collection is incredible. I love how you have styled your suitcases and the drawers are the best, they look fantastic!
I love how you have these displayed~! I have about two cases, and am always looking for more, but never seem to find any these days! Happy VTT
My Vintage Luggage Collection has taken on a Life of it's own as well so I've been wanting to Create some of those Vintage Luggage Bureau Units to house some of them... the Idea is very Appealing to me. Your Collection is Awesome!

What a fun collection! I really like how you've worked the suitcases into your decor.
Absolutely LOVE how you have chosen to display this wonderful collection of yours!!
Great inspiration!!

Not only is fitting the suitcases inside the cabinet, but just the thought of using a cabinet is genius! Looks fantastic!
I love this idea! I'm told my son a couple of weeks ago to be on the lookout for old suitcases. You can do so much with them plus I love the extra storage! I'm a new follower!
I love all your displays and the stack in the blue bookshelf too. What a great touch they add to your rooms!
I too love vintage suitcases, but only have four. Surely, I need more. lol! So fun how they fit perfectly in the bookshelf. Love the tip from Donna. All of your vignettes are so sweet! Thanks for sharing with SYC.
Hugs,
Jann
Love your collections and the creative ways you display them. Your post reminded me I have left a tn leather beauty in the back of my husband's truck. I saw a way to use it. Thanks for the inspiration!

I love the books in the suitcase! Its so cleaver and I would never have thought of that myself :)
These are lovely suitcase units that you've multi-purposed in your home. They're like little pods of surprises too because you end up having to utilise them as self storage.
