Taking a Little Break, Wedding in 10, 9, 8....

Well, the wedding programs are finished! And I think all but the cake and decorating on site are left....at least I hope I am not forgetting anything. oh, I just thought of something else...

Company will come this weekend and I am so excited, I now have to get my house in order! We built the photo booth last week, which meant the pink door I keep in my bedroom came down- Leaving a gaping hole- Gasp.
My neighbor had given me an old antique mirror that had been in an abandon storage unit, t had some water damage but the glass was perfect, I tucked it away and thought one day I would pull it out and add it somewhere
I also found the dresser curbside, complete with damage, a few years ago. (You can see what I did with it here in this post.)
My grandmother had a dresser just like this which is why it caught my eye. I knew the mirror was missing but I still wanted it, although this is not the style of mirror that went with this piece, it still carries the vintage look and is from the same time era.

I chipped away the water worn wood and gave the base a coat of paint to match the accent on the dresser.

For now it is resting where the door was.  Which look do you like better?
By the way, see the metal rose candle lamps! Score at 80% off at Hobby Lobby! I had been watching them a while and they patiently waited for me to take them home.

so for now....I am going on blogging break. I will be back after the wedding with hopefully lots of photos and stories.
love ya!!

Wedding Planning Winding Down

The Photo booth finished! Except now we have to take it down and reassemble at the site when it is time.  Last year I had found the pink center door sitting by a trash can and nabbed it! The other two doors came from our recycle Restore. They were on sale for 7.50 each.
They came with a good coat of dirt and one was a tad too tall so my husband trimmed it.
yes only 2 days before the first day of Spring- today...and it still looks like this here.
It is 10 am and zero.....enough said.

Next he placed hinges with removable pins for easy set up and take down, the doors are old and heavy and no way could you tote more than one at a time.

A few touches were added like a Spring basket of flowers....the only thing that will be blooming around here for a while!

A coat of chalk paint on one door and a large frame that will be used by guests for their photos. The light will not go there...I just wanted to show it to you.

I found it used for 20, In perfect working order, leaving everything in tact I simply glued insulators and an old bowl over the cardboard already there, keeping all electrical components from being touche by candle wax.
I also gave it some pink paint and we are planning on using this for the unity candle ceremony.

Our centerpiece Spring button flowers are resting in vintage glassware.

Most of the wedding things were moved over to my daughter's new spare bedroom, but a few things linger.... The two end row runners look kind of sweet where they are for now.

but...the room really looks like this...... with company on the way it is time to start finishing up and packing it down! 16 days and counting!!!!

The program station has taken over the kitchen.
 along with the button flowers.

and to keep it interesting a batch of cake pops for church group tonight and make ahead meals for company!

I am starting to get the question "what are you going to do with yourself when it is all done?"
Not a dang thing!
I plan on eating left over cake,
hopefully seeing Spring so I can garden, garage sale, get my ETSY up to par, and maybe doing a little house cleaning!

What is the #1 thing I learned this week?  People are NOT Good at RSVP's!!!!!
But....I have also been guilty of this...not so much in weddings but ya know...home parties. If you have an RSVP request sitting around you have not gotten to, do the host a favor and respond if you please!

 please.

And the Bride had Mono- Bridal Shower

The bridal shower!
Now that we are a few weeks away from the wedding I hosted a shower for my daughter. the day before she stopped in to help- coughing, so I sent her home to rest.
The next morning she called barely with a voice and through tears saying how sick she was and how bad she felt because of all the planning.

I told her to come on over and sleep and if she was up to it, we would party without her and just get her up for presents.

So we did, and when we got her up we masked her and did not pass the gifts!  Can you spot her?

We had beautiful pink cupcakes and fun take homes that look like cupcakes but are jars with caulk, glitter and beads to look like frosting. Each filled with candy.

One photo with the mask off, one with it on and instructions not to breathe while it was off! LOL

some how to's for this cake will be posted on North Dakota Kitchen but you can hop over now to see other cakes and cake decorating tips!

I planned hours for the party, I baked for hours the cakes, I prepared egg bakes and French toast. Just goes to show you....planning only goes so far! I am glad she woke up sick for the shower rather than her wedding. But a reminder to pray for that!!
I went on my honeymoon on antibiotics and would hate for her to have to.
I am thankful we have great friends who didn't mind a bit and are flexible and gracious. We had a great day and when the party was over my daughter went to the Dr. She is still exhausted- her timing may not have been perfect for the shower but it was for the rest of the weekend, when her brother, dad and fiance....moved all her stuff to the new apt, up 3 flights of stairs in wind and ice and snow.  Gotta hand it to the girl- she did that right!!!

so the moral of the story..... plan, plan, plan and then be flexible.
Praise God for your blessings and enjoy life, and always eat cake!
Lots and lots of cake.

Wedding Prep Continued- Vintage Style

We are less than 30 days out....29 now to be exact. I think we have wrapped up the table ideas, we took photos to work from and to help remember what to bring to the site!! Both the wedding and the reception will be at one place which will help but let me tell ya....I am starting to wane. Lists, crafts, details, details, details......

Praying for safe travel for visiting guests and family, praying for no late season snow storms, praying for time and organization and praying above all God will be honored in the ceremony.

And....wondering what to do with giant coffee filter flowers when the wedding is done. :)

For now....I am also hosting the shower for my daughter this Saturday, so....I made a cake! I hope to have the how to up some time- yep some time, we will leave it as that for now.
You can check over at North Dakota Kitchen, my food blog to see why I love cake, and bread, and cookies- did I mention I am a stress eater? A sugar eater?
I will post photos of the party when we are done, looking forward to time with friends- praying the weather announcement for snow and ice on Saturday doesn't pan out.  Or I will have a whole cake to eat myself.....:) sigh.
