Is it cool to beg for antlers? Is it cooler that a friend will give you some, along with other dead things?
I wish the snow would melt and the temps would get and stay above the negative,
above freezing in February in ND, is a long shot.
I would love to go looking in tree lines for some more antlers and who knows what else! I know people who live on farmland and the things they find in those trees are amazing!
Not just antlers, but this friend has also found enamel ware, bottles and old tins. What a treasure hunt!
I have always...always fought with my mantle, only satisfied with it for a short time, it never comes together like those beautiful magazine and blog spreads of others. Usually I just give up and what ever is there....stays until I can't stand it any longer, or the season changes.
Looking for a simpler, and less cluttered style, I wanted to jump on board with the white deer head look, sorry to say- we couldn't come up with a deer skull, yet, but hey, a beaver skull will do for now.
Mounting a set of fallen antlers to an old cupboard door still gave me a rustic yet clean uncluttered look. The antlers were white washed with flat paint, (white and a touch of tan), screwed into the door and the whole piece was then affixed to a large frame.
For now, it is working for me!
Do you have mantle issues or are you a natural at putting one together?

We just bought a mobile home and I have been so confused at how to decorate and remodel. You are a true inspiration. Thank you!
Love the antlers!
I DO!
I have mantel problems. I have mantel dreams.
I have a mantel in my craft room, camouflaging a space heater. It works for me. But I just don't fiddle with it much.
In the livingroom, behind the wood stove... I personally, think a mantel would look lovely there--but DH says, "...it's a fire hazard!"
Hmmmppphhh.... where did his sense of adventure go? really?
I'm toying with the idea of redoing some things in my living room...one is moving the shelf to a 'new' spot (about) 2 ft left and it will be a perfect mantel.
Now...
to get the dh out of the house for a few hours....

Oh...and have you always had the folding chairs on the wall next to your fire place?
Because I have some small child's chairs, metal not wood, hanging behind my wood stove. Just to add interest and detail in that spot on the fire wall. (otherwise, I just stare at a wood grain sheet metal)
I just noticed your chairs. I thought I was the only one to do something 'off the wall' like that!

I just wish I had a mantle to decorate! I really don't have much room to put a fake one. Yours turned out very rustic pretty. That frame is gorgeous! Thank you for sharing at What We Accomplished Wednesdays. Have a lovely week! ~Deborah
love how you have these displayed, really cool in that great frame!!
Shannon, sometimes my mantle just comes together easily and other times I struggle. Looks like you created the great look you were going for! Thanks for sharing with SYC.
hugs,
