Broken Doors, Cracked Pots, and an Old Saw Horse

I am still working on things for my first upcoming booth. It will be a one day deal and if I don't sell anything....I am going to be out of room to live in! It really is fun creating all day, but without a garage or storage unit...it is getting very cramped!
One of the doors we used for my daughter's wedding has been revamped into a few pieces, based on the feedback from my rake/mirror piece in my bathroom, I decided to make a couple more like the one below.
In the above photo I used the flaw of the door, the large crack, as an asset rather than tossing it out. A large crack illustrates that something still has value and charm. Just like us, even with a few cracks we can be God's work of art!

Now this piece is a true junk charm. I shall see if anyone else thinks so. I love pieces a little out of the ordinary and this fit the bill.

A new coat of paint and a little distressing was first, I then applied and sealed some yardsticks to the top to cover the deep groves in the top of the sawhorse.

I can see it as a fun book shelf, a great plant stand or a display in a man cave or child's bedroom.

I also came across a great sale a couple weeks ago with super fun items! Here is the stash!!

I am to the point where I have to start pricing now...that terrifies me! I have no idea, I mean, I know prices I would expect to see on some of the pieces, I know the general rule of thumb for pricing. The cost and time times two stuff, but, I just worry, I want to make money, I want to be compensated for my time and I want to sell things.....not come home with all of it.
Any advice? Also any booth advice you have would be great!!! thanks everyone.

Mini Redo's Nightstand and Storage cabinet

Work continues for my first try at a booth this coming Fall. I have never been a master at furniture refinishing and my husband HATES painted furniture. Good thing I intend to sell these (God willing). I suppose I could paint a piece here and there and tell him they were for the booth and maybe decide not to sell them? or forget them at home?  shhh don't tell. I will have to think on that.

This weekend I found the cutest little night stand, I was excited to work on it, being it is a small piece I felt I could tackle it! I make my own chalk paint, not because I don't like store bought, in fact, I am sure I would love it....I just can't afford it right now. So I buy paint, even a couple gallons of someone's oops  for a buck a gallon and I go home and dig in.
I also gave a try to some waxing. Now....don't tell Annie or Cece...but I mixed some black stain into my already owned beeswax furniture polish and....used it! cost- about a third. Now, again I am sure I would and will one day use their products, when my budget allows but for now I am using what I have.
Note the little frame with buttons and key, I am doing several small frames and other misc pieces to hopefully catch the eye at the booth too.

Next up the previous toy cabinet from a second hand store that is now a shabby junk tower.  It is the slick fake wood, so it needed priming and a couple coats of paint. I then painted black chalk on the front and decoupaged sheet music to the sides. A little sanding let layers of the white primer and blue previous color shine to give it a worn look.

Next up a great saw horse, a huge frame and a couple vintage drawers.  You can keep up by liking on Facebook. Click .

And so it begins- Junk Treasure Transformations

Well! I did it...I actually am going to try my first booth. I sent in the application, which is huge because I am a zero risk taker.
I got accepted so in Sept I will be trying my hand at a booth at   I am excited and nervous!!

My husband and I went on an overnight trip into Minnesota/Wisconsin, we stopped at lots of sales. Since he saw the last Junkmarket, he no longer thinks I am completely crazy in my junk obsession. So he actually helped me pick out stuff!!
We stayed overnight in an unplanned town due to our bad experience in Duluth. I know everyone says it is beautiful there.....but we didn't get to see that! We got there in rain, clouds and via interstate, did not know our way around, ended up downtown at an over priced (ridiculously) hotel, complete with street people who were twitching and ticking and staring. Probably nothing, but when you are out of your element....scary.
So we beat feet over to Cloquet and stayed in a much nicer place. Got up and the town was slam full of garage sales!!!

After we loaded up we headed back home, where I have no garage, no storage unit, only a double wide mobile home that is already full with my own crap  treasures. Now...I work and step around a mass of fun new toys!! Just when you think you are at maximum capacity??
Craig's list is lying in wait....with a couple more great scores like the desk above, we added a bottom to alleviate the missing drawer.

And...tada!!

an insulator flower vase/pencil holder makes a unique little touch.

A couple more finds from our trip are this rustic tool tray, and if you have followed my blog long you know how addicted to tool trays I am!

I also love crates, and metal, and look at that cute cooler!

What fun it will be to do something with the globe and light fixture.
The sweet little trunk will be sold as is I think, maybe a fresh coat of paint inside to help with the rustic smell (you know what I mean?)

So my first, for sale, finished piece! woot!!
oh...the other find via Craig's list?
The ad said it was an old trunk with the top off, needing to be reattached.
It was full of toys and dust, the bottom is chipped and the back bottom piece missing. It is more scuffed than it looks in the photo.
It took my husband 2 minutes to reattach the top, all the hardware was there and in perfect condition. He cut a 2x4 to replace to bottom board that doesn't show anyway.

aside from needing a good cleaning, it was in excellent condition inside.  And, a Lane cedar chest to boot!
can you see the corner of that piece of paper on the lid? The original marketing piece, dated 1954.

sigh of contentment.
